Jordan Nicksy has been working with Backroad Mapbooks since June 2019. Originally hailing from Parry Sound, Ontario, Jordan moved to BC to be with her partner, with whom she recently became engaged (congratulations!). Although Jordan has a background in tourism, digital marketing and social media, she applies her skills to whatever needs to be done around the BRMB office, from folding TOPO maps to filling out spreadsheets. Having grown up with easy access to the French River wilderness, Jordan is passionate about the outdoors, and also has a love for cooking and trying new food, whether at Vancouver’s many restaurants or during her travels abroad.
What is the favourite place you have travelled?
Northern Georgian Bay. It's a beautiful destination very near and dear to my heart as it's where I grew up learning to swim, boat, and generally enjoy the outdoors and time well spent with family. I will never pass up a chance to spend a weekend on the Bay.
What is your favourite BRMB product?
Vancouver, Coast & Mountains BC (5th Edition) - I'm new to BC, so having this handy book to learn my local area and plan anything from a day trip to a weekend getaway has been essential.
What is the most memorable moment you have had working at BRMB?
Well it's been such a short time, but getting to know the staff and becoming a part of the team has been pretty great. Already I feel very welcomed, and learning a ton about the world of maps, and about Canada in general. The team BBQs are excellent, too.
Favourite outdoor activity?
It's a toss-up between boating and scuba diving - but basically, anything on the water. Being at or in the water makes me feel at peace and at home.
Where would you go on your dream vacation?
Probably Japan, or Turkey. For me, destinations such as these bring together the perfect combination of food, history, diverse landscapes and old cities.
Which album would you bring to listen to on a desert island?
Tough one--but probably Yer Favourites greatest hits compilation from the Hip.
What is the movie you can quote the most from?
Shrek - not the gumdrop buttons.
If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
Ability to breathe underwater. No limitations of scuba tanks, nitrogen build up, etc.
