After you download the ViewRanger app for free from iTunes or Google Play, you will have the option to purchase any of our BC & Ontario Recreation Maps for $9.99 USD each. This includes Bulkley-NechakoPrince George and MackenzieSquamish, Chilliwack and MerrittHaida GwaiiKamloops and InterlakesOkanagan Valley and ShuswapNortheastern BCVancouver Island NorthVancouver Island South, and West Kootenay for BC along with Algonquin Provincial Park and Bancroft District for Ontario. Once you have the mobile maps loaded onto your device, you can use all of the handy features listed below.

Recreational Trails and Points of Interest

These mobile recreation maps are jam-packed with outdoor adventure information including trails for hikers, mountain bikers and ATVers, plus paddling routes for canoers and kayakers complete with put-ins, take-outs and portages. We show you tons of recreational Points of Interest including boat launches, backcountry and frontcountry campsites, waterfalls, fishing holes, beaches, viewpoints, picnic sites, cabins and more.

 

GPS Locator

After you have loaded the desired mobile map, ViewRanger will use your device’s GPS locator to pinpoint your location on the map. This means that you will have all the cartographic detail of a Backroad Mapbooks Recreation Map directly on your phone or tablet with the added bonus of knowing exactly where you are located on it. Best of all, these maps can be downloaded for offline use and are fully functional outside of cell and data service.

Droppable Waypoints

Want to mark a point on the map to indicate a landmark or stop of interest? Maybe you’ve stumbled upon a breathtaking viewpoint while hiking, or have found that perfect blind while scouting a deer hunting area? You can easily drop a waypoint anywhere on the map with the tap of a finger and save it for future reference.

 

Recordable GPS Tracks

An easy-to-use record option lets you track your movements in the backcountry, overlaying the track on top of our Backroad Mapbooks map. This tool also lets you view stats like elevation gain, distance travelled and time elapsed. Once you are back in network range, you can send your tracks to a friend to share your adventure.

View Live Stats

While you are out on your adventure, you can easily view trip stats including speed, average speed, trip time, trip distance, bearing, elevation, total ascent, time moving and more. ViewRanger even tells you when the sun sets and rises, along with the exact moment of solar noon.

 

Discover Routes

In addition to the trails and recreational POIs provided with the Backroad Mapbooks Recreation Maps, ViewRanger maintains its own user-submitted database of hiking routes. Easily find a route in your area of choice with the click of a button.

Skyline

Skyline is an augmented reality tool included in the premium version of ViewRanger that allows you to pan the landscape with your phone and identify mountain peaks, towns, lakes, cliffs and glaciers – Skyline identifies over 9 million points within a range of up to 32 km (20 mi).
