Backroad Mapbooks are going mobile! iPhone or iPad users can use the geo-pdf version of our maps to load onto Avenza's PDF maps or similar program to see exactly where you are. This is particularly helpful in areas where Google Maps do not have a lot of detail. Features like loading waypoints and recording tracks are also coming soon.

Track Yourself While Driving

Programs like OziExplorer, Memory Map and even the iPhone/iPad readers allow you to physically see where you are driving on our maps. It is easy to get lost in the backcountry without road signs and with the aid of a GPS receiver and a lap top you will now know exactly where you are and you can see how to get out again. This is certainly one of the most useful features of these programs.

Route Planning

From route planning to physically being able to see what type of terrain you are going to explore the possibilities are endless. You can even accurately measure the distance you have to drive or walk.

See the map details like you never have before. Despite the scale shown in our mapbooks, the majority of our maps are prepared at the popular recreation scale of 1:50,000. By zooming into the maps you will see just how much detail we do provide and now have the flexibility of picking the scale of map you prefer to work with.

Seamless Maps

Geography is not limited by borders, so why do we? That is why our digital maps are seemless – to allow easier navigation between pages. Another recent improvement has been to make our map key seemless for OziExplorer users.

Writing

New to the Digital Edition’s is the fact we now include the text. The maps are what sell our books, but it is the reference section and pure number of individual listings that really amazes people. We spend countless hours researching and writing about the various recreational opportunities in each area. Fishing, paddling, hiking, camping, wildlife viewing, snowmobiling, ATVing, skiing, biking, touring…you name it, we cover it.

Index and Map Key

No mapbook would be complete without an index and map key. We now provide an index along with the traditional map key. Both will help you find a specific area or site and the appropriate reference page or map coordinate.
