97 The access into Alps Altruras Trail is decent and well signed. 2009
100 The Earl Grey Pass Trail is actually 61 km long and takes anywhere from 4 to 6 days to complete. The shorter distanced listed is walking from the east side up to the pass only. A fire in the summer of 2007 took out the western section up to the Earl Pass, but the east side is still open. No word on when the western side of the trail will be re-established. 2008
100 The Columbia River (Waterloo) Trail links Sunningdale in Trail with the old Doukhobor bridge in Ootischenia outside of Castlegar. Also out of Sunningdale is the Sunningdale Flag Trail found off Sandpit Road. It is about a 4 hour hike, with a few steep sections and bushwhacking, to the fine views over the Columbia River. 2009
103 There is no biking at Island Lake Lodge, but they do offer a variety of hiking trails to explore. A brochure is available showing these trails. 2010

107 There is a new trail to Mount Loki that begins off the Portman Creek Forest Road, around the 15 km mark. The first part of the 7 to 9 hour trek, is easy as it leads to the Portman Notch. Beyond here the trail is steep and requires some scrambling to get to the summit. In all you climb, 1,200 metres (3,940 ft), but the views of Kaslo through to Balfour over Kootenay Lake are amazing. 2009

109 Although signs up the Old Glory Trail recommend staying right, the left approach is much nicer, gentler and allows for a loop. Enough people use it that maintenance should not be a concern at this time. 2009
109 Panther Lake Trail is becoming overgrown near the start and has deadfall to negotiate near the lake but the lake is still reachable. It is recommended to hike the last 1 km of the Sheep Creek Rd to the trailhead. 2009
109 Access to the Placer Lake Trail is washed out near the 3km mark. It is possible to ATV for continue on foot to the trailhead, but this will more than double the length of the trail. 2009
109 Access to the Plaid Lake Trail is very rough and has large waterbars making it best to plan to walk about another 3 km to the trailhead. The trail is in good condition however. 2009
110 The Ripple Ridge Trail is well signed, but has some deadfall to negotiate. Access is through Stagleap Provincial Park but no vehicles are permited on the park road. 2009
111 The Sherman Lakes Trail is best done later in the year (September) due to the creek crossing near the trailhead. 2009

13 E5 Thanks to the lobbying of the Kootenay Lake Chamber of Commerce the popular and very scenic Grey Creek Pass Forest Service Road is once again open. Although several closed signs are in place, many vehicles used the route in the summer of 2012.
