Third Edition of Central Alberta Backroad Mapbook. Now with Township & Range Grid.
Welcome to the Third Edition of the Backroad Mapbook for Central Alberta! This is a vast area of the Alberta heartland that stretches east from the Rocky Mountain foothills to Saskatchewan and from Olds in the south to Lac La Biche in the north.

As always, we spent countless hours updating the book. Everything from the new look road and recreation maps to the writing on activities like fishing, paddling, camping, hiking and snowmobiling was reviewed in detail. The explorer or outdoors person will countless things to do and see in the area. If you love getting outside, this is the book for you.

Central Alberta has much to offer the intrepid outdoor explorer. The lack of crowds, the wide-open spaces and the fantastic scenery are sure to make for the adventure of a lifetime. In the northeastern corner of these maps you will find Lac La Biche and the so-called Lakeland. Within 65 kilometres of the town of Lac La Biche, you will find nearly twenty per cent of the fish-bearing lakes in Alberta. Anglers will certainly reveal at the endless opportunities this region has to offer. The area also supports one of Alberta’s largest systems of trails for hikers, cross-country skiers, snowmobilers and ATVers east of the Rockies.

On the other side of the maps, you will find the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, as well as some of Alberta’s forgotten Rockies. Places like Whitehorse Wildland and the Cardinal Divide area offer up scenery equal to anything in the national parks, with only a fraction of the crowds.

Between the two is a vast, sweeping prairie dotted with lakes, strung together with rivers and broken up by patches of wilderness. Birders and wildlife enthusiasts love the prairies, where hundreds of birds flock to the many wetland areas. While many prairie lakes do not offer good fishing, you will find the shallow lakes warm up in the summer, offering many a great swimming hole.

What sets this book apart from the rest of the other guidebooks is not only the highly detailed maps, but also the write-ups on all the outdoor activities in Central Alberta. Explorers will find the maps extremely useful in finding new areas. In addition to the highways and grid roads, we highlight the logging and exploration road networks, trail systems, park and recreation areas in the area. Along the way we note the points of interest and the infinite recreational opportunities. The writing provides sections dedicated to lake and stream fishing, trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding and ATVing, paddling, parks and recreation areas, wildlife watching and winter recreation. For each activity, we provide the most comprehensive coverage available anywhere. By providing a short description of the activity or area, the reader will be able to pick and choose the destination of his or her choice.

The opportunities are endless! Whether you like to ATV, fish, hike, hunt, paddle, ski or just explore backroads, we are sure you will have as much fun using the Backroad Mapbook as we did in developing it.
