Hunting Northern BC

We were a little disappointed with our recent moose hunting trip to Northern BC and wondering how others are doing out there. Our destination was west of MacKenzie and Williston Lake. Although the moose sign was there (and bear and wolf) we did not see many. On the other hand, the grouse hunting was surreal. We would love to hear how others have fared?

This management unit is more interior than coast and encompasses the Coquihalla drainage. The area has a lot of deer (mule deer), but heavy snowpack can have a negative impact on populations. pointer Thompson Okanagan BC: White-tail Deer
White-tailed deer are about 3/4 the size of mule deer with body and tail of pale brown hair and “normal” sized ears. They are wary animals and when alarmed, they usually run quickly away with their broad tail lifted to expose its white underside and broad white rump patch (hence the name). The bucks’ antlers grow with separate tines rising from a main beam.
